HEATHER & TOM | Relaxed, Sandburn Hall Wedding with Autumnal Hues

Updated: Nov 5, 2022

After arriving nearly half and hour late to their first date and almost convincing Heather she was being dumped, when she was actually being proposed to, I’m pleased to report that their wedding day, at Sandburn Hall went by without a hitch.

Sandburn Hall is set amongst 1000 acres of lakes and woodland, on the outskirts of York and I can see why Heather and Tom chose here for their day. It offers the most incredible views from it's floor to ceiling windows, with each gable end framing another view of the lake and wooded areas that surround it. You may even catch a glimpse of the golfers, who are enjoying a game with friends. Heather surprised Tom on their day, by hiring the fairy-lights and the autumnal trees to frame the window where they said their vows, I can see why she chose to do that, it looked just fabulous.

The most wonderful thing about Heather and Tom is their amazing sense of humour, which stood me in good stead when I turned up on their doorstep a week early to photograph their wedding. What can I say, it’s been a busy year! I was however; delighted to turn up on the right day to capture the events as they unfolded, it was wonderful that in light of, my mistake it made for great banter and laughter during their portrait photos.

When Heather and Tom returned their questionnaire, it made the best read, they had me physically laughing out loud as I read about how they met and how Tom proposed to Heather…Apparently, the first proposal didn’t meet Heather’s expectations, so Tom tried again and thankfully, the clifftop yielded a yes, over the original leisure centre carpark setting.

These two are not used to being in the limelight though and being thoughtful people, they didn’t want to put any pressures on the most important people in their lives, so they kept thing simple and relaxed. They omitted the speeches and instead, asked Heather’s good friend (who's used to public speaking) to do a blessing for them both. Because they'd decided to say their vows and celebrate all in one place, they didn’t have the religious ceremony which was important to certain members of their family; with this in mind, they felt the blessing incorporated this nicely to balance everything.

Take a look below to how it all panned out.

I love to capture relaxed days like Heather and Tom's, if you're planning something similar please get in touch to check my availability.
