HOW A BRANDING PHOTOGRAPHY SESSION WORKS

A SIMPLE GUIDED PROCESS. FROM A

RELAXED DISCOVERY CALL TO A

WELL-PLANNED SHOOT AND IMAGES YOU'LL GENUINELY USE.

STEP ONE – A Relaxed Discovery Call

Our first step is a relaxed, no-pressure conversation where we get to know each other a little. You can tell me about your business, your hopes for the shoot, and any worries you might have about being photographed. If something feels daunting or unclear, this is the space to say it out loud. I’ll help put those fears to bed.

Together, we’ll start shaping some early ideas and explore what’s possible, without needing everything figured out straight away. There’s no expectation to perform or commit on the spot. This call is simply about clarity and connection.

Most people come to this stage feeling a little nervous but excited, especially if they’ve never done a branding shoot before. By the end of the call, my aim is for you to feel reassured, clear on what we could achieve together, and genuinely excited about the prospect of working together.

There’s no pressure to book something that doesn’t feel like the right fit. If it is, we’ll move forward calmly and intentionally. If it’s not, that’s absolutely okay too.

STEP TWO – Planning Your Branding Session

I love being involved in the planning stage, and this is where your branding session really starts to take shape. If you already have ideas, inspiration, or Pinterest mood boards, send them my way. Seeing what you’re drawn to helps me align my vision with yours, and it means we’re always working towards something that feels right for you and your business.

If you’re struggling to picture how we can create something that feels impressive or impactful, that’s absolutely fine too. I can share similar projects I’ve photographed in the past, or put together inspiration of my own to help you see what’s possible. Planning is very much a two-way conversation, and you don’t need to arrive with everything worked out.

I can also help guide practical decisions like location, setup, and flow. If you don’t already have somewhere in mind, I can suggest locations I work with regularly, or help you see the potential in spaces you already have access to. Nine times out of ten, people don’t realise they’re sitting on the perfect place already.

If clothing feels like a sticking point, I can offer suggestions or share relatable guides to help you feel confident and comfortable, without forcing you into anything that doesn’t feel like you.

The goal is always to plan a session that feels achievable, natural, and genuinely aligned with how you want to show up.

STEP THREE – The Branding Photoshoot Experience

On the day of your branding shoot, the focus is on keeping things calm, relaxed, and human. There’s no pressure to perform and no expectation to know what to do in front of the camera. Most people arrive feeling a little nervous, and that’s completely normal.

I’ll guide you gently throughout the session, offering direction when it’s helpful and stepping back when it’s not. There’s no stiff posing or forced smiles. Instead, we’ll work with natural movement, conversation, and moments that feel true to how you actually work and show up day to day.

If something isn’t quite working, I’ll adapt on the spot. I’m always thinking on my feet, responding to the space, the light, and your energy, so the session flows rather than feeling rigid or over-planned. Many clients tell me it feels more like a relaxed catch-up than a photoshoot.

By the end of the session, most people are surprised by how easy it felt. The nerves fade, confidence builds, and you’re left knowing you’ve shown up as yourself, without having to force it.

STEP FOUR – Your Images and How to Use Them

After your session, you’ll receive a carefully edited collection of images that reflect you, your business, and how you actually work. The aim isn’t just to deliver beautiful photographs, but to give you a versatile image bank you can use confidently across your website, social media, and wider marketing.

Your images are created with purpose. We’ve already thought about where they’ll live, whether that’s a homepage refresh, ongoing social content, launch imagery, or simply helping you show up more consistently online. This means you’re not left wondering how to use them or saving them for “later”.

Many clients find this is where the real shift happens. Having images that feel natural and aligned makes it easier to talk about your work, update your platforms, and be visible without overthinking it. You’re no longer scrambling for something to post or feeling like your photos don’t quite represent where your business is now.

The result is a set of images that work hard for you, supporting your business long after the shoot itself.

Once you have a sense of how the process works, you may want to explore pricing and investment for branding photography.

Is Branding Photography Right for You?

Branding photography is a great fit if you’re ready to show up more confidently in your business and want images that reflect where you are now, not where you started. You don’t need to feel naturally comfortable in front of the camera, but you do need to be open to a guided, collaborative process.

It’s especially well suited to small business owners and personal brands who care about how their work is presented and understand the value of thoughtful, considered imagery. If you’re looking for something quick, overly posed, or purely transactional, this approach may not be the right match.

If, however, you’re at a stage where you want images that feel natural, aligned, and genuinely useful, branding photography can make a real difference. A relaxed discovery call is the best place to explore whether it’s the right fit for you, with no pressure to commit and no expectation to have everything figured out.

The best next step is a relaxed discovery call to talk things through and see if it feels like the right fit.
