Beth & Owen's Howsham Hall Wedding | Natural Wedding Photography in North Yorkshire

"These two are meant to be awkward in front of the camera..."
At least, that's what they told me.

What. A. Day.
Firstly, I love a wedding at Howsham Hall.
I used to ride past it on my pony when I was younger. I grew up just three miles down the road, so it has always felt a little special to me. But beyond the nostalgia, it really is one of the most beautiful wedding venues in North Yorkshire. This stunning Jacobean mansion is full of character, history and incredible spaces for a wedding.
And as it turns out, it's just as picturesque in the rain.
A Rainy Howsham Hall Wedding
Beth and Owen were married at midday.

It was raining when I arrived at 9am, and it was still raining after the speeches at 5pm. But here's the thing about the couples I get to work with.
They're incredibly easy-going.
They embrace whatever the day brings and focus on what's important.
People often ask if I get many bridezillas.
Hand on heart, I don't.
Because I get couples like Beth and Owen.
I've often wondered if it's because the people who book me aren't chasing magazine-perfect wedding photos. They don't want to spend hours posing for the camera or worrying about whether everything is picture-perfect.
They want to be present in their day.
They want photographs that help them remember how it felt.
And for Beth and Owen, that feeling was pure joy.
Relaxed, Natural Wedding Photography at Howsham Hall
One of the reasons I love being a Howsham Hall wedding photographer is how well everything flows, even when the weather doesn't cooperate. The team handled every weather-related change of plan without a hint of chaos.
We moved confetti until later, squeezed in group photos where we could, and eventually headed outside in the light mist for portraits.
The rain didn't spoil a thing.

If anything, it slowed everything down in the best possible way. It gave Beth and Owen more time together, more time with their guests, and more space to enjoy every part of the day. That's one of the reasons I love natural wedding photography. It's not about forcing moments. It's about documenting what's already happening and finding the beauty in it.
The Moments You Can't Plan For
One of the things I love most about documentary-style wedding photography is that the moments people remember most are rarely the ones they plan.
Throughout the day, Beth's dad found himself caught off guard by his emotions more than once.
Every time it happened, he'd laugh and say,
"I wasn't expecting that."

But I think that's the thing about watching your child get married.
You spend months planning the day, choosing the details, organising the logistics and imagining how everything will look. What nobody quite prepares you for is how it feels.
The pride.
The joy.
The overwhelming realisation that the little person you've watched grow up is starting a whole new chapter of their own.
Watching him throughout the day was one of my favourite parts of the wedding.
Those little moments of emotion felt so genuine and unfiltered.
And if I'm completely honest, it also left me wondering what on earth I'm going to be like when my own two decide to tie the knot.
The Unexpected Moments
My favourite unexpected moment of the day though?
Owen's uncle.
After watching the veil-wafting operation from a distance, he decided to get involved and very quickly revealed a hidden talent.
Before long, he was assisting Liam (Beth's brother) and had fully embraced his new role as Chief Veil Wafter.
You'll see the evidence below for yourself...

Honestly, I wish I could bring him to every wedding.
Ending the Day in Style
To finish the day, I stayed a little later for something special.
Beth and Owen are huge Formula One fans, so we ended the evening with a confetti spray finale.

And I have to say, it looked incredible.

A Howsham Hall Wedding to Remember
Rain. Mist. Laughter. Joy. A professional-grade veil wafter.

This is exactly why I love being a North Yorkshire wedding photographer.
Because no two weddings are ever the same, and the best moments are almost always the ones you could never have planned.
