At the end of August, I had the absolute pleasure of photographing Evie and Matt’s stunning wedding at The Normans Wedding Venue. Nestled in the heart of the countryside, The Normans isn’t just another barn venue; it’s a place where rustic charm meets a touch of magic, offering couples a beautiful setting to exchange vows and celebrate with loved ones.
Why The Normans?
Evie and Matt chose The Normans because they fell in love with its unique charm. The venue is an all-weather, all-season destination, with five distinct areas—the Stables Bar, Ceremony Barn, Courtyard, Grain Shed, and Cow Stalls & Tack Room—each one offering its own magical ambience. Whether it’s the cosy warmth of the Ceremony Barn or the rustic elegance of the Grain Shed, The Normans provides the perfect backdrop for a wedding day that feels both intimate and grand.
A Day Full of Joy and Laughter
The wedding day flowed effortlessly, filled with joy, laughter, and a sense of togetherness that was truly special. Evie and Matt had a strong connection to many of their guests, having gone to school together and sharing a close-knit group of friends. This familiarity and friendship were evident throughout the day, creating a fun and relaxed atmosphere that made for some truly candid moments, especially during their photo session with the wedding party.
Although Evie and Matt had known each other since school, it wasn’t until a night out with friends in York that their love story truly began. From that point on, they never looked back, and their wedding day was a beautiful reflection of their journey together.
Capturing the Magic with Natural and Candid Photography
As a wedding photographer, my focus is always on capturing the natural and candid moments that tell the real story of the couple's wedding day. Evie and Matt’s wedding was filled to the brim with these moments—from the laughter shared between friends to the emotional glances during the ceremony, every detail was authentic and full of life.
Their white, gold and green theme perfectly complemented the venue’s natural, rustic beauty, and the candid moments I was able to capture truly brought their vision to life. Whether it was a spontaneous laugh or a quiet, intimate moment between the couple, these are the images that evoke the real emotions of the day.
Special Moments to Remember
One of the highlights of the day was Evie’s dress reveal with her bridesmaids and her dad. This has become an increasingly popular trend, and it’s easy to see why—these moments are filled with emotion and anticipation, and the photos capture the love and support that surrounds the bride on her special day.
Another particularly important aspect of the day for Evie and Matt was capturing photos with their grandparents. It’s rare to have so many grandparents present on a wedding day, and Evie and Matt made sure to make the most of this opportunity. These photos are more than just pictures—they are treasured memories that will be cherished for years to come.
Final Thoughts
Evie and Matt’s wedding at The Normans was a celebration of love, friendship, and family, set against the perfect backdrop of rustic charm and elegance. As a photographer, there’s nothing more rewarding than capturing the natural, candid moments that make a wedding day truly special.
If you’re planning a wedding and want your day captured in a way that’s true to life—full of genuine emotions and beautiful, unposed moments—natural and candid wedding photography is the way to go. And if you’re looking for a venue that offers both charm and versatility, The Normans might just be the perfect place to start your forever.
